Communications agency dedicated to help international development organizations to communicate with impact

"A vision without a plan is just a hallucination"

Finnora was set up with an ambitious goal to advance global development through the strategic use of communications tools.

Spending over a decade working for international development and servicing their communications needs, we know exactly what strategic communications can do.
They can push forward important agenda, connect to decision-makers, inspire behavioral changes, and when needed – save lives.

Our portfolio includes projects of different scale and sensitivity, from country-wide advocacy campaigns on water and sanitation to communicating challenging and politically sensitive reforms. Headquartered in  Helsinki, Finland, we bring together a creative and diverse team of strategic communicators and storytelling experts from around the world.

our work

Papua New Guinea: Sustainable Development Goals

The Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) will require everyone’s input if they are to be met, not just that of NGOs and other civil society organisations. The United Nations Development Programme in Papua New Guinea sought to engage the government, the private sector and the public in striving to make the SDGs a success through a campaign called ‘Be The Change’. Our communications strategist engineered the strategy behind this awareness-raising drive. By creating attractive, engaging content, the campaign succeeded in stimulating positive behaviour change within many in society.

Central Asia: Climate change

The World Bank funded project on Climate Change adaptation and Mitigation in the Aral Sea Basin project is an ambitious project which aims to reduce negative effects of climate change by offering innovative climate innovations. Finnora experts were in charge of devising an umbrella communication strategy  to be implemented in four countries to support climate advocacy and innovations uptake among farmers, decision makers and civil society.

Above photo “In search of the sea” is the finalist of a regional photo-contest dedicated to climate change impacts in Central Asia. The photo-contest was designed by Finnora experts as part of the communication strategy.

World Bank: Women’s empowerment

Women around the world earn 30% less than men. To support the World Bank’s advocacy efforts and in the lead up to the International Women’s Day, our experts produced this touching video. It shows the perspective of six highly successful and influential women in Central Asia on women’s empowerment. The video was just a part of a more complex campaign, that helped to advocate for women’s empowerment and economic participation in the region.

India: The world’s largest poverty reduction initiative

The National Rural Livelihoods Mission (NRLM) is, perhaps, the largest poverty reduction initiative and also the largest program for women with its goal of reaching nearly 70 million rural households. The program focuses on the poverty of rural households, mobilizing local communities into representative women’s self‐help groups. Working exclusively through rural women and their organizations, NRLM is having a tremendous impact on gender issues and could be agame-changer in terms of achieving the SDGs on nutrition, gender, and poverty. Our team helped to produce multimedia content, that showcases the success and challenges of this transformative initiative.
